All the artwork displayed on Papery Goodness are entirely hand-made by Vancouver area designer Robin Wong using a technique called "quilling". The designs are almost entirely made from paper, with the exception of a few embellishments such as wires, beads and gems.
Quilling, or paper filigree as it is sometimes referred to, is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and then glued together to create designs. The paper is wrapped around a quill or a slotted tool to create a basic coil. It is then glued at the tip of the paper and shaped to create flowers, leaves and other decorative designs.
Quilling dates back to the Renaissance when it was used to decorate book covers and religious items. In the 18th century quilling became popular in Europe where "ladies of leisure" practiced the art. It eventually spread to the Americas where examples from Colonial times appear in some museums.
